How Do I Embed A Video On My Website?

How Do I Embed A Video On My Website?

This Article Is For:

  • All users who have: Manage All Pages or Manage Selected Pages Permissions
  • This is applicable to: All themes

Please note that in some instances where embeds don’t work, the reason might be that the publisher of the video did not permit the video to have this functionality.

Step-by-step guide

There are three main ways to embed a video on your website.

Text Editor

** Only works with YouTube links and will take up the entire width of the page
  1. Open the Post, Page, Sidebar or Contest you wish to inject the video link in
  2. Insert the YouTube link. (e.g https://youtube.com/xoxoxox) If inserting the link did not worked, please copy the YouTube embedded link.
  3. It should look similar to the image below

Video Player Element

  1. This option works best for adding YouTube or Vimeo videos to your website.
  2. For more info on the video player element see: https://support.socastdigital.com/portal/en/kb/articles/video-player-element

Raw HTML Element

This option works best for adding non-Youtube videos to your website.
  1. Open the link to the video you want to add
  2. In the video player, look for a Share option
  3. Under Share look for an Embed option or iFrame code
  4. Copy the code

  5. In the SoCast platform, open the Page, Blog Post, Sidebar or Contest you want to add the video to

  6. Select Drag-and-Drop Editor

  7. Click Add Widget

  8. Select Raw HTML Element

  9. Paste the custom iFrame code

Highlighted red is the area where you can set the width and height of the video in pixels. In this example the width is 480 pixels and the height is 270. A common practice to better utilize the space on different-sized screens and mobile devices is by typing "100%" in the width portion. That way, it will use 100% of the space available on the page, and won't be cut off on smaller screens

  10. Once you have the sizes adjusted, Preview and Save

  11. For more information on the 'Raw HTML Element', please visit: https://support.socastdigital.com/portal/en/kb/articles/raw-html-element

In some instances, if you wish to add vertical videos, such as YouTube Shorts or video content from "X" (formerly known as Twitter), this is where you will paste the embed code or iFrame code.
