How Do I Set Up A Google AdManager (DFP) Account?

How Do I Set Up A Google AdManager (DFP) Account?

This Article Is For:

  • All users who have: SoCast Advertising Permissions
  • This is applicable to all SoCast Themes

Requirements:

  • Users must have admin access to Google AdManager

In order to monetize your site, you'll need to set up a Google AdManager account - this account allows you to serve your own in-house ads, sponsorship ads, or Google AdSense ads to fill any empty ad inventory on your site, and once set up is a very easy way to make money on your site.

If you are experiencing any issues during signup, or have any questions, please email support@socastdigital.com who will be happy to guide you through the process. There are a lot of steps to go through, but we've tried to explain them as best as we can below:

Step-by-step guide

Go to https://admanager.google.com/home/ , and click the "Get Started" button to start your application.

You will need the following to apply for an AdManager account:

  • A Google account
  • A Google AdSense account

Step 1: Sign up for a Google Account.

This one is simple - If you have a Gmail address that you plan on using for DFP, you can skip to Step 2.
All you need to do is fill in your name, email address you want to use, proposed password, birthday, contact number and location.
Now you have a Google account that you can use with DFP, and an email address to receive any DFP-related correspondence.

Step 2: Enter the URL where you'll be serving ads.

If you have a Google account, log in, and you'll move onto step 2 in the process, which is to enter the URL you'll be using to serve AdSense ads.
If you already have a Google Adsense account, you're 90% done! Skip to Step 7!
Your primary URL would be the URL for your station that people type in to access your current site, or the new URL your site will be if you're rebranding your station.
NOTE: This URL is what AdSense determines as yours. By entering this URL, you're determining that you have the rights to monetise the contents through Google AdSense. This means that AdSense ads will only display on that URL - if you're using an alternative URL or previewing pages, AdSense ads will not show up on the page - only Google DFP (sponsored or in house) ads will.

Step 3: Enter the station's payment information.

This information will be investigated by Google to ensure that the station is legitimate, so it's important to get right:
Once all of this information has been filled out, click on Submit my application and wait for an approval email from Google. Unfortunately it can take a long time to process - anywhere from 2 days to 2 months!

Step 4: Confirm your account

Once your AdSense account has been confirmed, you can click on Get Started Now in your approval email to work on the final step to AdSense approval - adding some ad code to your site!

Step 5: Get the test ad code from Google AdSense:

After clicking on "Get Started Now", log into your AdSense account and do the following:

  1. Visit the My ads tab.
  2. In the sidebar, select your product. For example, if you want to display ads on your website, select Content.
  3. Click +New ad unit .
  4. Give your ad unit a name. You can call this TEST for now.
  5. In the “Ad size” section, choose the size of the ads that you’d like to show - in this case, it can be any size.
  6. You can skip past the rest of the settings and siply click Save and get code.

Step 6: Add the test ad code to your site:

Depending on what website URL you used when you signed up for AdSense, you will need to add the ad code to THAT SITE in order to get AdSense approval.

In the "Ad code" box that opens, copy all of that code to your clipboard, log into the SoCast platform and do the following:

Recommended Procedure for LIVE Website Domains→ Click Settings> Website Settings and scroll down to Custom Header HTML . Paste the Ad Code into the provided box and click save at the bottom of the screen.

If your SoCast site isn't currently live, please paste the code somewhere within the <body> tags of any URL on your current site and access that page using your browser. If you are unable to do this OR the above instructions resulted in a rejection on your application, you can try following the instructions below once your SoCast website is live:

  1. Navigate to Website > Pages:

  2. Click on New Page:

  3. Call your page Test with a ton of random numbers at the end so that users can't access this page by guessing the URL - it needs to be published live, so the longer and stranger the name is, the better!
  4. Click on Add Widget, and create a Raw HTML Widget.

  5. Paste in the code that you just copied from AdSense exactly as it was, and click Save.
  6. Click Publish

  7. Copy your page name from the / onwards from the permalink section of the page to your clipboard

  8. Launch your website's homepage and paste the page name onto the end, so the address looks like this:
    www.yourstationswebsite.com / test3472983472387423847239847 /
  9. Launch the page. Now go back into your Google AdSense account to confirm that the ad has shown up and you've passed the second stage of signing up for an account!

NOTE: The URL needs to be the same as the one that you've set up for Google AdSense in STEP 2 . If this site isn't live on the SoCast platform yet, this second stage of processing can't be passed until the site goes live.

Once your AdSense account is approved, you're able to take the final step of setting up AdManager:

Step 7: Setting up a Google AdManager account

  1. In a browser where you're already signed in to the Google AdSense account you want to use, visit http://www.google.com/dfp/ . Follow the prompts to verify your Google Account.

  2. Select your display language.

  3. Select your country or region, time zone, and default currency.

  4. Confirm your local settings and accept the terms. Local settings are permanent once you've accepted the terms. Make sure you've got the right country or region, time zone, and currency.

That's it! You're now finally set up with Google AdManager.
