How Do I Set Up a Google Ad Manager (DFP) Account for My Radio Station Website?

Who Is This Article For?

  • All users with SoCast advertising permissions
  • Applicable to all SoCast themes

Requirements

  • Admin access to Google Ad Manager

To monetize your radio station website, set up a Google Ad Manager (formerly DoubleClick for Publishers, or DFP) account. This allows you to serve in-house ads, sponsorship ads, and use Google AdSense to fill any empty ad inventory on your site. Once set up, it provides a straightforward way to generate revenue.

If you run into issues during signup or have questions, email support@socastdigital.com. We’re happy to help. Follow the steps below to get started.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Go to Google Ad Manager

Visit https://admanager.google.com/home/ and click the "Get Started" button to begin your application.

What You Need to Apply

  • A Google account
  • A Google AdSense account

Step 2: Sign Up for a Google Account

If you already have a Gmail address you plan to use for Ad Manager, skip to Step 3. Otherwise, create a Google account by providing your name, email address, password, birthday, contact number, and location.

You now have a Google account to use with Google Ad Manager (DFP) and an email address for related correspondence.

Step 3: Enter the URL Where You'll Be Serving Ads

Log in with your Google account and enter the URL where you will serve AdSense ads. If you already have a Google AdSense account, you can skip to Step 7.

Enter URL Screenshot

Your primary URL should be the main address for your station’s website. Note: AdSense will only display ads on the URL you provide. If you use a different or preview URL, AdSense ads will not appear—only Google Ad Manager (sponsored or in-house) ads will.

Step 4: Enter the Station's Payment Information

Provide accurate payment information for your station. Google will verify this to confirm your station is legitimate.

After completing the form, click Submit my application and wait for an approval email from Google. Approval can take anywhere from 2 days to 2 months.

Step 5: Confirm Your Account

Once your AdSense account is confirmed, click Get Started Now in your approval email to proceed to the final step—adding ad code to your site.

Step 6: Get the Test Ad Code from Google AdSense

  1. Log in to your AdSense account.
  2. Go to the My ads tab.
  3. Select your product (for example, Content for website ads).
  4. Click + New ad unit.
  5. Name your ad unit (for example, TEST).
  6. Choose an ad size (any size is fine for this step).
  7. Click Save and get code.

Step 7: Add the Test Ad Code to Your Site

Depending on the website URL you used for AdSense, you must add the ad code to that site to get AdSense approval.

Copy the ad code from AdSense, log in to the SoCast platform, and follow these steps:

  • For live website domains: Go to Settings > Website Settings, scroll to Custom Header HTML, paste the ad code, and click Save.
  • If your SoCast site isn't live: Paste the code within the <body> tags of any page on your current site and open that page in your browser. If this is not possible or your application is rejected, follow the steps below once your SoCast website is live:
  1. Navigate to Website > Pages.
  2. Click New Page.
  3. Name your page something unique (for example, “Test” with random numbers) to prevent users from guessing the URL. Publish the page live.
  4. Click Add Widget and create a Raw HTML Widget.
  5. Paste the AdSense code exactly as copied and click Save.
  6. Click Publish.
  7. Copy your page name (from the “/” onward) from the permalink section.
  8. Visit your website homepage and add the page name to the end of the URL (for example, www.yourstationswebsite.com/test3472983472387423847239847).
  9. Open the page in your browser. Then return to your Google AdSense account to confirm the ad has appeared and you’ve passed the second stage of account setup.
Note: The URL must match the one you provided in Step 3. If your site isn’t live on SoCast yet, you cannot complete this stage until it is.

Once your AdSense account is approved, you can proceed to set up Google Ad Manager.

Step 8: Set Up Your Google Ad Manager Account

  1. While signed in to your Google AdSense account, visit http://www.google.com/dfp/ and follow the prompts to verify your Google account.
  2. Select your display language.
  3. Select your country or region, time zone, and default currency.
  4. Confirm your local settings and accept the terms. Note: Local settings are permanent once accepted, so ensure your country, time zone, and currency are correct.

That’s it! You’re now set up with Google Ad Manager and ready to monetize your radio station website.
