How Do I Set Up, Moderate, and Use SoCast's SMS Feature?

Note:

Please keep the following in mind when replying to SMS messages:

  • Allowed 1 reply per SMS message for Magnet
  • Unlimited replies per SMS message for Zipwhip
  • No replies per SMS message for Impact ( moderate and read only )
  • This is an additional cost add-on feature
SoCast’s SMS tool is a way for your station to develop greater brand loyalty and provide a fast and easy way for your audience to interact with your brand and personalities anywhere.

If you don't see the SMS option in the SoCast Platform backend, please reach out to support@socastdigital.com, as this may need to be set up for you.

Here’s how to configure your SMS service provider to integrate SMS into social monitoring and activity stream conversations.

Which SMS service providers does SoCast integrate with?

Currently we integrate with Magnet Mobile, ZipWhip and IMI Mobile. You should already have an account with one of these providers before attempting to integrate your SMS service with SoCast.
If you use another provider, please reach out to us to discuss options for potential integration.

Set-Up Your SMS Provider Details

  1. Set-Up Social > Social Settings > Account > Configure SMS
  2. SMS Service Provider: choose one of the SMS providers integrated with SoCast from the drop-down list.
  3. Depending on which provider you pick, it will ask for various information that your SMS provider should give to you, including things like user ID’s, passwords, keycodes etc.
  4. Once you have filled in your SMS information, click ‘save’.

Create An Activity Stream 

  1. Social > Activity Streams > All Activity Streams >  
  2. Create a new Activity Stream or choose an existing Activity Stream
  3. In the ‘content area’ choose “conversations”
  4. Then choose SMS from drop-down
  5. Click ‘save’

Add Your Activity Stream To A Page

Once you’ve created your Activity Stream, you’ll want to add it to a page on your website.
Please note that once an Activity Stream is added to the page, the public will be able to see any approved SMS messages, as they will appear within the stream.
To add it to a page:
  1. Go to website > pages > all pages
  2. Create a new page or open an existing one
  3. Choose the ‘Activity Stream’ widget
  4. Select the Activity Stream you made earlier
  5. Publish / Save the page

Moderate Activity Stream Conversations

There are a couple of ways you can moderate Activity Stream conversations.
  1. Go to: Social > Activity Streams > Conversations > SMS Tab > and approve or reject messages. Approved SMS messages will appear in the Activity Stream.
  2. Go to: Social > Social Posts > Monitoring > Configure Streams > Add ‘inbox’ stream. This will appear on the monitoring page, and show all conversations including Facebook, Twitter, Member and SMS messages. From there you can approve or reject messages. Approved messages will appear in the Activity Stream

Reply To SMS Messages

You can reply to SMS messages either through the Activity Stream or via text message.
  1. Go to: Social > Social Posts > Monitoring > Configure Streams > Inbox > Filter Source > SMS Conversations > Approved
    1. Reply: Displays as a station SMS comment within the Activity Stream
    2. Reply Privately: Sends a direct text message, does not appear in the Activity Stream, meant for exchange of personal information
    3. Reject: Rejects and removes the SMS message from the Activity Stream
