What Should I Do If My Activity Streams Are Not Updating?

If your Activity Streams are not updating, please follow the steps below before contacting the Support Desk. These troubleshooting steps will help you identify and resolve common issues that may prevent your social feeds from displaying correctly.

General Troubleshooting Steps

First, check downrightnow.com to see if the social network you are having trouble with is experiencing any outages or issues.

Common reasons why Activity Streams may not update include:

  • Third-party social networks are down or experiencing API issues.
  • The password for a social account was reset.
  • The authentication token became invalid.
  • You have lost permission or do not have the correct permissions to connect via the API.

Facebook Activity Stream Not Updating

  1. Log in to Facebook.com and confirm you are listed as an Admin in the page roles for the Facebook Page you want to add to the Activity Stream. If you are not an Admin, you cannot connect that Facebook Page.
  2. Go to Social > Social Settings and confirm the Facebook page appears in your settings. If not, see Step 1.
  3. Click the Reconnect Facebook button, or remove and re-add your Facebook account.
  4. Go to Social > Activity Streams > All Activity Streams. Click into the Activity Stream that is not updating, then remove and re-add the Facebook page. If you cannot do this, you do not have the correct permissions (see Steps 1 & 2).
  5. After refreshing your Facebook settings and/or the Activity Stream, post to that Facebook page. This will kickstart the API. Wait 10 minutes for the cache to clear; you should then see your Facebook post.

Things to Note:

  • Sponsored or paid posts do not appear in the Activity Stream.
  • The Facebook page must be set to public without any restrictions, or it will not appear.
  • Posts shared from other Facebook pages will not appear.

Instagram Activity Stream Not Updating

  1. Ensure the Instagram account is a Business Account.
  2. Make sure it is connected to a Facebook Business Page.
  3. Both the Facebook Business Page and the Instagram account must be added under Social > Social Settings.
  4. Try removing and re-adding your Instagram account in Social Settings to reset the token.
  5. Try removing and re-adding the Instagram account in the Activity Stream under Social > Activity Streams. Click into the stream. If you cannot remove it, you do not have the correct permissions (see Steps 1 & 2).
  6. After refreshing your Instagram settings and/or the Activity Stream, post to that Instagram account. This will kickstart the API. Wait 10 minutes for the cache to clear; you should then see your Instagram post.

Twitter Activity Stream Not Updating

  1. Go to Social > Social Settings and make sure the Twitter account is added.
  2. Try removing and re-adding the Twitter account.
  3. Try removing and re-adding the Twitter account to the Activity Stream under Social > Activity Streams. Click into the stream.
  4. After refreshing your Twitter settings and/or the Activity Stream, post to that Twitter feed. This will kickstart the API. Wait 10 minutes for the cache to clear; you should then see your Twitter post.
