Why Do I Get an Error When Adding a Facebook Page to an Activity Stream?

When you try to add a Facebook page URL to an activity stream, you may encounter an error such as:

"Sorry, cannot get content from https://www.facebook.com/examplepage, please try again."

Common Reasons for This Error

This error typically occurs for one of the following reasons:

  • Geo-blocking: Facebook is restricting content from that page based on location. Since our servers are located in the United States, they cannot access geo-blocked content.
  • Insufficient Content: The Facebook page you are trying to add does not have enough content to be pulled into the activity stream.
  • Facebook Issues: There may be a temporary issue with Facebook, such as an outage or service disruption.

How to Check and Remove Facebook Geo-Blocking

To ensure your (or your sponsor's) Facebook page is not geo-blocked, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to a Facebook account that has access to the page experiencing the issue. (If it is a sponsor's page, they will need to log in.)
  2. Go to the Facebook page.
  3. Click on Settings in the top right corner.
  4. Scroll down to Country Restrictions.
  5. Ensure the page is set to "visible to everyone".
  6. If it is not visible to everyone, click the pencil/edit icon and remove "United States" or any other country restrictions.
  7. Save your changes.
  8. Return to your activity stream in the SoCast back-end and try re-adding the Facebook page.

If you continue to experience issues after following these steps, please check if the Facebook page has sufficient content or if there are any ongoing issues with Facebook itself.
