How Do I Create a Comments Blacklist in SoCast?

Who Is This Article For?

  • All users with the Manage Comments permission
  • Applicable to: All Themes

Important Note

The comments section blacklist works differently from the Activity Stream blacklist. You cannot use wildcards in the comments blacklist. Asterisks (*), slashes (/), and plus signs (+) are treated as literal characters.

When a comment contains any of the blacklisted words in its content, name, URL, email, or IP address, it will be marked as spam. Enter one word or IP address per line. The system will match blacklisted words inside other words (for example, "press" will match "WordPress").

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Go to: admin.socastsrm.com
  2. Click on the Website tab.
  3. From the drop-down menu, select Comments.
  4. On the right-hand side, under the Discussion Settings tab, go to Comment Blacklist.

  5. Add any words or IP addresses you want to blacklist. Enter one per line.
  6. If you prefer not to create your own blacklist, you can use a pre-made blacklist created by WordPress. Download the attached document, copy its contents exactly, and paste them into the comment blacklist section.
  7. Click Save to apply your changes.
