This guide is for app clients who want to target banner ads to specific app menu items using Google Ad Manager. Follow the steps below to configure your ad targeting effectively.

Step 1: Set Up Key Values

  1. Navigate to Inventory > Key Values and click New key-value.
  2. Enter a name for your key value. Do not use the screen name specifically. For example, use ScreenNames.
  3. Add new values for your app menus. Use the format app://menu name. For example: app://Music, app://weather, etc.
  4. Click Save to apply your changes.

Step 2: Set Up Targeting in Line Items

  1. After creating your Ad Order in Google Ad Manager, set up the line item with the appropriate targeting to ensure your creatives appear in the correct menu location.
  2. Go to Delivery > Line Item, select an existing line item or create a new one.
  3. Scroll to Add Targeting > Show More > Custom Target.
  4. In the first dropdown, select the key value you created in Step 1.
  5. In the second dropdown, choose how you want to target:
    • Select any of to show ads on selected menu items.
    • Select none of to hide ads from selected menu items.
  6. In the third dropdown, select the specific menu(s) where you want the ad to display or be hidden.
